Course Information

It can be challenging to know where to begin when developing communication systems with children who have deafblindness. This two day workshop will provide strategies for early intervention and ideas for developing meaningful communication through the use of tactile sign language and key words to build vocabulary. Sampada will provide strategies to build trusting relationships that allow parents and providers to include movement and mobility in learning experiences for this population. There will be a discussion about identifying communication preferences for each child.

We will explore the use of calendars to build vocabulary and provide ideas for developing literacy skills with experience books for personal experiences, and role play with story books.

The important role of the family in communication development will be highlighted throughout the workshop, and parents/ caregivers are encouraged to join us for the two days with discounted pricing.
