This presentation explores the unique educational experiences DHH adolescents in mainstream settings, drawing on research that prioritises student voices. As more DHH students are educated alongside hearing peers, understanding their specific learning, social, and emotional needs becomes essential for creating truly inclusive environments.
Dr Iliana Skrebneva will share insights from my research with high school DHH students, highlighting their perspectives on effective teaching strategies, classroom accommodations, and social integration. The presentation will particularly focus on the often-overlooked emotional and social development aspects that significantly impact DHH adolescents' educational experiences and overall well-being.
Attendees will gain practical knowledge about how teachers can adapt their teaching approaches, materials, and assessment tasks to provide DHH students with equitable opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge and skills. The session will include interactive activities that allow participants to consolidate their knowledge and reflect on their teaching practices to better support DHH students in their classrooms.
This presentation aims to provide educators with actionable strategies that support not only the academic achievement of DHH adolescents but also their social connections and emotional resilience in mainstream educational settings.
