Session 1: Eye Empower with Simran Goyal and Salonee Gayal

4-5pm AEDT 26 March 2026

Simran Goyal and Salonee Goyal-Devaraj bring this masterclass to life through their lived experience of navigating education, social environments, and career pathways with a vision impairment.

Across a 50-minute session (followed by live Q&A), they explore how the right support at the right time can fundamentally shape confidence, opportunity, and long-term outcomes. Drawing on their experiences in school and university, they reflect on the barriers they encountered, the moments where effective support made a difference, and how early expectations can influence future success.

They also delve into the often unseen social dimension of living with a vision condition, including forming friendships, participating in social activities, and managing the physical and emotional load that comes with navigating environments not designed for accessibility.

Turning to career transitions, Simran and Salonee share insights into workplace assumptions, disclosure conversations, and the importance of self-advocacy and supportive ways of working.

The session concludes with the story behind Eye Empower — the work they are now leading to translate lived experience into impact — alongside key takeaways for educators, support professionals, and leaders, before opening the floor to questions.
