Course Information

Students with low vision may benefit from accessing printed material through a variety of means and may use both print and braille effectively in their education. These students are referred to as Dual Media Learners and many have specific and unique educational needs that have not been adequately researched in the past. This workshop will focus on the needs of students with visual impairment who may benefit from both braille and print reading and writing.

The workshop will be divided into three parts:

The first part of the workshop will address available information on the educational situation of students who are dual media users. Information will be presented that provides a context for issues related to this topic.

The second session will address Learning Media Assessment (LMA) for students with low vision and will include techniques and strategies for comparing media for students who are able to access both print and braille. Participants will have access to sample LMA reports and will discuss implications of assessment results.

The final session of this workshop will focus on instructional solutions and strategies for working with students who will access texts through both print and braille.
