Our staff and students came together in the Sydney sun to enjoy Australia’s largest celebration of Deaf culture, history and community.
Held at Sydney Olympic Park on 30 August, Deaf Festival Sydney is an annual festival that’s been running for more than 30 years. The Festival celebrates diversity within the Deaf and hard of hearing community, showcases Deaf businesses, and promotes Deaf culture, language and history.
This year’s Festival featured stalls, workshops and activities, music, dance and other performances by Australian and international artists—including students from NextSense School doing a beach-and-gym-themed performative skit during the opening ceremony.
NextSense was a proud return sponsor in 2025, with more than 30 staff and students volunteering their time to share information about our hearing services, professional education and career opportunities from our stall, and to lead Auslan nursery rhymes with a transport twist, at the Activities Tree.
Long-time Deaf Festival attendee Professor Greg Leigh, Director of NextSense Institute, acknowledged event organisers, those who attended, volunteered their time, or shared their talents.
— Professor Greg Leigh, Director, NextSense InstituteThank you to everyone who helped make this year’s Deaf Festival so special. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with so many different parts of the Deaf community, as well as our staff, clients, students, families and other service providers.
"What a privilege to see so much talent and energy converge in Sydney," he said.
